  • Updated Keota Pics & Ear Wrapping Instructions

Hi all..... have updated Keota pictures at 11 weeks on our website plus hubby (Frank) decided today he wanted to help assist new folks with ear wrapping/taping puppies so he took picture by picture & devised step by step instructions using the lil "super warrior model Keota".* This is the method that works for us!* If anyone wants to use the link to help folks please feel free to do so.* I know over the years I’ve gotten tons of email on how to wrap ears.* Maybe this will make someone’s life a little easier.** You"ll find a bit of humor on the last step of ear taping.

It always seems like when I'm showing a girl, everyone else is to.....now it's a boy and here in this part of the country everyone is getting baby boys. Let's just hope they all grow up and help keep those majors strong!

RE: Updated Keota Pics & Ear Wrapping Instructions

The vet wrap, is that the stretchy type tape?

Zeke hates having his ears done. It is a fight constantly. We have tried 2 different methods.

The first method being what my breeder uses. Cork post with a thin metal stay taped so that the sticky part is against the ear also using skin bond, then that sets on the nub of the ear, and wrapping tape in 2 spots to the ear, with a brace. But having 2 danes in the house, his ears always seem to fall inward toward each other, or the metal stay bends when taped from playing. Then we'd take them down (using lots of unisolve) and retape.

So then we tried with the pipe foam in the bell of the ear, taping the top, middle and bottom of the ear, no skin bond. They stayed up 2 days before the bottom of the foam would pop out of the ear. So, I put the foam back in and ended up taking them down completly because the foam was rubbing the inside of his ear, and now it was red and puffy. Well, his ears have been cleaned, and rested, (down for 2 days, and stand when he wants them to) There is no redness today, so then need to go back up.

I want to try your method of wrapping with the vet tape, but, being Sunday, am unsure wether I can get vet tape. But I can go to the store to buy that stretchy tape. Is it the same thing?

I would go to my breeder, but she is 4 hours away, she also suggested that maybe I use the old method of just using masking tape to wrap the ear. I have not tried that yet.

I have spoke with all the vets in my area, and no one tapes or does ears anymore. So we just keep trying. We must not be doing it all bad, because when he puts them up, they are beautiful.

Anyway, I would appreciate any help.

            Thanks,

            Debbie

Edited to add that Zeke just turned 5 months old, eats Eagle Pack Holistic and gets Vit. C 1000 mg per day and enyzyms. He is about 26" tall at the withers and 89 lbs.

RE: Updated Keota Pics & Ear Wrapping Instructions

Hi Debbie.....you can get the wrap at PetsMart, Petco even Walmart. It's the light weight self-adhesive. I like using the skin bond because it does help the foam (covered with sports tape) stay in place. If the foam is coming out of the bell of the ear you might want to try to make is smaller in diameter. Hope this helps.

Great instructions Brenda, I will be headed out to Walmart to get my supplies today! I do have some of them at home already!

Me and Hubby taped last night since my girls cup finally fell off... Lets just say I think these step by step instructions may make my life a bit more enjoyable when it comes to taping!!! Especially the last one.

I may have hubby start with 16, I hope it still works that way ;-) :-)

edited to add.... Your boy is just stunning!! He looks like he is sitting very well for his ears, any advice on how you do that!!! ;-)

                          Hi Brenda,

I just wanted to say what a beautiful little boy you have there. Good luck with his show career! I'm sure he will finish quite quickly. I have a harl male who's father was the litter brother to BMW Razzle Dazzle. So we have a little in common!
