  • Support slings/harnesses for handicapped dogs

I saw this website and thought it worth mentioning:

    http://www.handicappedpets.com/Mobil...#HarnessReview

They sell harnesses, slings, etc. for dogs with mobility problems.

Arlene at www.sfk9.com also offers really nice slings too.

Unfortunately, it's something that you usually don't think about until you're trying to move a dane in an emergency. Always good to have something like this around because sometimes a blanket/sheet just doesn't cut it.

Well behaved danes are not born. They are “made” by responsible and caring dane owners.

      Speaking of which,

I have to go pick up Anka today after her spay at about 6:30 pm. How am I going to get her into the jeep? I do have a board that I can use as a ramp. Do you think that's the best way?

      Thanks,

      Emily

I wouldn't pick today, after a spay, as a first time to try your dog out on going up and down a ramp. She could fall very easily-especially considering she has been medicated.

She should be able to get up with your help and maybe an assistant from the vet's office.

I agree 100%. Been there and done that with EZ-just ask Caralee what fun it was getting a very unstable dane to go up and down a ramp. FWIW, even the wide ramps aren't adequate for a full sized dane that is unsteady on their feet.

What you might want to do, if she's unable to get in by herself slowly and without jumping, is take a sheet as a sling, and support her under her front "armpits" to guide her in the jeep with an assistant to help with her rear. I wouldn't sling her under her belly.

Thank you both so much! I will take my husband and a sheet with me.

            Edited to add:

Also, I have read up on the hypothermia, should I cover her all night with a big blanket? I have a blanket filled with goose down, would that make her too hot?

            Thanks!

Yes, the goose down might be over kill. Just a warm blanket and check on her several times to make sure she's not too warm or cold.

I remember Zoey had the shivers and it was awful to watch. She was fine the next day.
