  • A very vocal protest!

I was getting ready to go off to college, put the small dogs in the kitchen and was just about to get Harley into the other room so I could set the alarm - I guess they didn't realise my mom would be back in less than an hour and decided to stage a very vocal protest!

I've only heard Harley howl once before - she sounds like a wolf!

That is brilliant that you thought to grab the video camera...I was laughing out loud! Years ago in UK on Sunday evenings there was a TV programme "Songs of Praise" Harry Secombe was the host (some of you may remember him from The Goon Show) Anyway......everytime Harry opened his mouth to sing BENSON my black Great Dane would sit upright in front of the TV howl the entire time he was singing......wish I had had a video camera back then.

I live in the capital where there is the largest concentration of colleges in the country, I go to Ireland's oldest college - Trinity College Dublin. The college is right in the city centre and it's too built up so there's not enough space for students to all live on campus. I'm really lucky it's so close so I can still live with all the doggies. It's the norm in Dublin for students to stay at home. Only two of my college friends don't live at home - one won a scholarship so he gets free accomodation and the other there's no space for her at home so she had no choice lol.

I just played your video and the minute Harley started to howl, both dogs came running full tilt from the bedroom into the kitchen where I am. Livia was actually quite upset by it all!

i live in the US and i live in one state but go to school in another state (but only 3 hour drive) and lm in the dorms here with a bunch of other. theres only one problem....no pets except fish....totally dumb. so i go nuts until me and the fiancee go back to my home (ohio) or to his house (northern michigan) where people have dogs everywhere. i go through withdrawals i call it lol

The reason she sounds like a wolf is probably that, of all the large 'wild' canines, the one with the skull most like a great dane is a siberian wolf. Slight differences in dentition (wolves have bigger teeth) and the brow ridge (danes have a slightly larger one). Salukis have basically a coyote skull that's been slightly elongated. Oddly, 'pit' skulls look more like hyena skulls, which is fascinating since hyenas aren't canines at all!

Skull studies are so fun. I was examining photos of skulls last night, examining similarities and differences of different canines (and animals perceived by the majority of humanity as canines) and it was absolutely fascinating. If anyone's interested, there are some really good photos of replica skulls at boneclones.com So many skull stores only have domestic canines in 'small, medium, large' so it was really cool to find somewhere that had the breeds listed.
1 Great Dane - Castiel (white-deaf and visually impaired). 4 cats - Shinigami, Peter Parker, Dial Home Device aka DHD and Mobile Analytical Laboratory Probe aka MALP. 3 reformed feeder rats - Steve , Tony and Bruce. 1 sugar glider - Donna.

A home with a wealth of animals, on our journey to becoming a home with a wealth of animals and a dearth of clutter.

That's really interesting, actually you can hear my sighthound cross howling in the background too. Of the two howling in the background she is the higher pitched one. I've never heard a cayote so can't say if she sounds like one!

I can't distinguish her well enough from the background, but coyotes have really odd voices. You should youtube their noises. They're indescribable, but the pitches are interesting.
