  • 6 month old puppy with blockage

Paws of Austin picked up Apollo from the shelter where the owner dumped him -- hadnt eaten in a month so skin & bones. Turns out he had a pair of pantyhose stuck in his intestine... so sad:

You can follow his progress on facebook:

They said he has eaten one small soft meal and passed one tiny BM. Ate more this morning and they are anxiously awaiting the "result" to see if his intestines are working for sure.

OMG! Look at that poor puppy. It just breaks my heart to see him like that. Glad to see on FB that he is on the mend.

WTF is wrong with people? This is infuriating. The puppy doesn't eat for a MONTH and you don't take it to a vet???? Those effing people should be punished. Big time.

I just can't wrap my head around this...seriously, what is it that is missing from people's brains that would do this? They can't be "right". And the person who dumped that other little guy named Wesley, whose story is under Apollo's, out of a car. It just makes me literally sick to my stomach.

I read on the FB page that the owners actually did take it to the vet (4 times is what I think they said) but the vet couldn't figure it out. The new vet knew within 10 minutes the dog had an obstruction.

ETA: Here is the comment I saw.. "The owner tried to get him help -- 4 trips to the vet -- but the vet couldn't find anything. I question the vets competence, but the owner did try."

Yes I find it hard to believe the first vet didnt even consider an obstruction considering the owner told him that the dog had a habit of eating socks and had actually pooped one out in the past. It was also said in the comments that the owner refused some tests. All I can say is that I'm glad they took him somewhere rather than just let him die.

And the other dog on that page, Wesley, is happy and healthy living in his new forever home out in the country with several other dogs. The foster family for him was the same that had Emma very briefly - they dropped Wesley off at his new home and then picked Emma up the same day. Wesley was their longest foster - it took a week before he wagged his tail and 4 months I think to get him healthy enough to adopt.

I'm so glad to hear that both dogs seem to be doing better!

A backyard breeder (BYB) is someone who has been deemed not a reputable breeder.

A "Responsible Breeder" supports their buyers, supports their own dogs, and supports the lives of any fututre puppies by having (and keeping up with) all the appropriate health testing suggested by the GDCA.

I also find that info very hard to believe. How can a vet not consider obstruction four times, unless he did and the owner didn't want to run the tests to verify. In cases like this, you'll never know what really happened.

I am with you and very glad to see they took him in but damn, they sure did wait long enough! That dog had to be near death.

That particular rescue takes in some serious cases. There was a girl that I had donated to a couple times a while back that was a horribly bloody mess of demodex and skin issues. I think her name was Noel (maybe?). Ugh... she just broke my heart. I've wondered how she is doing. I use to get email updates on her.

Here is an update on Apollo - good news! And he is at the same foster family that took such good care of Wesley, Noel, and many many other hard cases for Paws!

Here is the update about Wesley earlier this year - look at the contrast from his original photos!

Noel is in a lovely forever home. Emma and Logan get to play with her when she is at daycare or boarding at the same time as them. Here is a photo:

Thank you for posting that link... She is just beautiful! WOW! She has come a looooong way. What a wonderful happy outcome. A night and day difference... all it takes is a home that cares and loves her.
