We need your help. These 10 Great Danes were dumped at a local shelter by their owner/breeder on 9-13-08. This breeder dropped off a total of 20 dogs , the shelter has contacted other rescue groups to help with the other dogs.
Some of our volunteers went to the shelter today and met these Danes. Most are a bit shy, but will likely be fine once they are out of a shelter environment. I think that all 10 are adoptable, with some work. Most, of them have not been socialized, leash trained, taught any manners or obedience. I expect that they may not ride too well in a car. The shelter is not putting them up for adoption, since they are shy, and so untrained. Even if they did put them up for adoption, it is likely they would NOT be adopted by the general public.
We would like to be able to save all 10 Danes, but there is limited room. We have agreed to take the first 5, as I think we can make room for them somehow. We need foster homes for either other dogs in rescue, or the last 5 Danes by Friday, or they will be put down.
They're desperate for volunteers and would accept even short-term help!
I'm taking in my very first foster this weekend!
