  • Ear is puffy???

So i retaped the ears yesterday they came out just fine, not wrapped tight at all but this morning i noticed the middle part of his ear is puffy?? could it be an allergic reaction? i used Goo Gone (vets advice) couldnt get the unisolve. i took the tape off just to be sure it wasnt too tight and retaped again. any ideas what it could be? maybe just irritated?

You have either taped too tightly or there is an infection/swelling. You need to remove all of the tape immediately and treat the ear until the swelling is gone.

How are you taping the ears?

I agree tape is too tight, or there is the onset of infection.

You could try giving some benedryl in case it is an allergic reaction. 1mg/lb, round down. So if it is a 40 lb pup, give one 25 mg tablet.

CVS or Walgreens can order the Unisolve with next day turn around. I have gotten it from both.

also i know because of the extra skin on their heads but the posts wobble back and forth is this normal? for example if he looks down they go forward if he up they go back. or should they be completely stiff on his head?

That happened to Scarlett - she woke up puffy at the base and I just left them untaped. When I came home at lunch, the swelling was gone and I retaped that night. I chalked it up to the tape being too tight.

I don't know what you mean by "the posts wobble back and forth". The posts inside the ear should be glued to the ear so that they don't move. If the posts moved around the ear would be irritated.

However, the pup should be able to move his ears with them posted. You just don't want the ears to flop over the front or back of the head or down to the side. Each taped ear should be at a slight angle from the head. The pup should be able to pull them up straight or let them relax slightly.

Let me clear that up sorry....the posts don't wobble her ears go back and forth which like u explained they should move slightly like f he is eating they fall forward. It doesn't appear to be puffy anymore but I will untape them in the morning and check. The ears move in the way of if he is running they will go back and forth on his head they're not stiff

Are you using a bridge? In the beginning the bridge helps give the ears rigidty, as they age, I remove the bridge and allow the pup to use their muscles to control their ears.

yes i have a bridge theres just so much loose skin on his head that he needs to grow into that the posts(ears) move with the skin. the foam may be a bit to thick so i am going to make thinner ones and retape him later. I will post a picture later on today on this thread so you can see

                          Darling puppy.

My only comment: Tape the tip to the post. That will help keep the tip from curling.

It does look kind of heavy, but I have never used to foam method. I have always prefered glueing in back taped stays, with a cork on the bottom. Very rigid and yet, very light!
