  • Ear Growth ?

Hi - this may seem like a dumb question but I am really confused here. My vet stated that the ear does not grow after cropping - is this true? Will my danes ear stay the same size that it is now for his while life?

    Thanks

Everything about a Great Dane grows from birth until they hit genetic maturity. The ears do not grow alot, but they certainly grow. When Kaos was first cropped a 6" stay was just barely longer than his ear from the bump to the tip. It is now a good 1/2-3/4 inch too short, he just turned 10 months.

Elton's ear actually grew right after I wrapped it last week and the stays came out of his ears.

A few years ago I asked how the ear grows yet stays in the shape of the crop but I don't remember the answers making a lot of sense.

Although I'm not a long time dane owner I can say for a fact hat Roxy's ears did grow a bit after the crop.

I'm not trying to be rude or overstep anybody but, IMHO I think your vet should know this if he/she were going to crop your dogs ears.

The ears dont grow proportionate to the rest of the dog, they are almost full length when cropped, this is why pups crops seem SO long but as they grow the crop ends up fitting them. They do grow some but not nearly as much as you'd think. Some of my adult dogs here their ears are the same length they were when they were cropped as pups. And some here did grow more.
Same with some natural ear dogs I bred, their ears looked huge as pups
but they grew into them and they are correct and normal size now.
