Our dog who I recently had to PTS looked almost exactly like that and I always assumed she was a Dane mix. We didn't know for sure because we got her from the shelter. Her ears basically went up on their own.

The person on the site said that they were taped, but it wasn't their dog so I don't know if they knew for 100% sure

That might be the solution to cropped flopped ears - get 'em to stand first & then crop them. If they won't stay up, tape 'em down and return them to natural, LOL.

I really like the expression on the face of the Dane lying next to him. Kind of like "Dude, what did they do to your ears?"

Yes, this can happen. All you are doing is training the cartalige how to stand. Sadly they won't have the nice look of a crop. Out cartilage as we grow stiffens. So if you start taping at a very young age can you make a difference yes!!! But will it have the same look as a cropped Dane NOOOO. but yes anatomically it can be done!!! The bell and ear shaft will not resemble a cropped dane but yep it can be done.

yes, the cartilage is very malliable and can stand. I do express that it would have a diffent look than a cropped dane but yes it can happen... I wouldn't advise it as it has a very different lool. Puppies cartilage is soft and we tape to make it stand. However, uncropped ears have much more cartalidge to have stand. Harder but can happen

My vote is that it's a mix and the ears do that naturally. I saw a shephard mix at the park with the same ears.

Boy that's ugly! LoL! Poor thing! Teehee!

I think dogs or mixes that are supposed to have ears like that are cute and fine, lol but a Dane with those ears?! Eeeek! Just so wrong *blegh*
If you cover the ears and just look at the dogs pretty face... he's a cutie! <3

My 16 year old son walked over when I had the picture up and said that it was an ugly giant chi. He agrees with everyone else.

I automatically thought mix too. Those don't even look like natural dane ears if you were to put them up to me? I dunno. If they were taped like that... its just weird.

I just wanted to comment that it looks like you do not have the the support stacks in the bottom of his ears. While that might not have an effect on the ability to get them to stand (if the problem is at the top), it is not the way I would set them up.

As to the OP, it looks absurd to have uncropped ears stand up like that. At best it has a semi German Sheppard look. At worst it looks like the Taco Bell dog who has eaten too many chalupas.

I think it looks cute. But then again, it doesn't exactly look strange to me as I stared at something very similar for 15 years.

Holy Gianormous Ears Batman! LMAO! That looks like a shepherd mix to me!

I would be interested to see if someone who has a natural eared puppy would be willing to dedicate the time and effort into posting to see the ears really would stand. I don't think the would. I think a purebred dane has too much ear and it would be too heavy to stand without being cropped.
