After everything we've been through, I finally had to let Zeus go.
In January, I had posted seeking help for Zeus. My husband lost his job and we lost our home. We had to move in with my husbands family. Zeus was just too much for them and he had begun to loose his bowels every now in then in the house. I was given the ultimatum of boarding him, finding him a new home/the human society, or putting him down. I couldn't bare to do anything of those things. He's my baby. I've taken care of him since the moment I picked him out. We've been through everything together. It took me awhile, but I saved enough money to rent out a home. I fought to keep him and in April, I had a house of our own and now Zeus was safe and comfortable.
He was having a hard time getting up and down, but once he was up he was as good as new. Running around, playing, getting into everything...his usual. He'd liked to sleep under my son's twin bed with him. He'd get stuck under there, so I'd have to pick up the bed to let him out. One morning, I heard his whine for me to release him, but this time I was too late. He was already out, but he wasn't walking right. His back legs were just everywhere. He looked like he was drunk. He began falling on the kitchen floor. He fell all the way down the stairs, because he wouldn't let me help him. He started screaming if he fell in a certain position. He was having bm's in the house everyday now, since he was too afraid to go outside. The vet put him on pain meds etc, but it really didn't help much.
He just slept most of the time. I bought his favorite bones and he hardly touched them. Just carried them. If he'd been feeling well the bones wouldn't have lasted 20minutes. But there they all were sitting on the floor. He would cry in his sleep and I'd cry watching him go through this for two weeks.
Monday, July 27th 2009, I kissed him and hugged him. I told him how much he meant to me and how sorry I was. I told him it was okay and he'd ALWAYS be my baby. He went to sleep in my arms and now he will rest without pain.
I can't wait to see you again Zeus!!!! I will miss you ever day until we meet again. Watch over us and come around every once in awhile to say hi.
WE LOVE YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!! I love you baby!
