bentley has 3 stuffies that he prefers. he takes them all outside with him every day. when he brings them in the house, he isn't particular where he puts them and doesn't give a hoot if pea decides she wants to use one for a pillow. there is never any discord between them if pea pays attention to his 3 special stuffies.
one of these is a ragged pink bunny. "pink bun bun" we call it. the pink bun bun is the #1 stuffy in bentley's life. he's had it for years. to be sure, it's ragged and even has a little tear in it but it's his, he loves it, and i can't bring myself to toss it out.
the pink bun bun routinely gets buried in the sand or in a pile of leaves. sometimes, it will be missing for weeks at a time until i stumble across it or bentley digs it up to give it some lovin'.
has anybody ever seen this behavior? i don't know that he's "hiding" it from pea or me or if he thinks it will escape if he doesn't confine it. it's pretty funny to watch him from the window. he will take it outside, bury it, dig it up, bury it in a different spot, rinse and repeat until he's satisfied and then come in the house for a nap.

I am so fascinated by this! All my life I have heard and seen on TV funny antidotes about dogs that bury bones, toys, etc, but I have never actually KNOWN of a real dog doing this and had never witnessed it. But just in the last month or so, I "think" I've seen Hank bury a bully stick under some shrubbery in my backyard and then turn around and change the hiding place. I'm almost positive that's what he was doing. (it was hard to see exactly what he was doing).
He has no one to be hiding it from, so I can only assume that it was just a fun activity for him, or saving it for later?

hahaha that's adorable! It must be very precious to him! And how sweet of him to still share it! (well besides when he buries it) I've never seen Boss do this but we haven't only had him for three months and the grounds been too frozen for him to bury anything.
