  • Bocephus Falls Off Couch Every Night

    Hi there,

I have a 22 week old guy who we've allowed to sleep on the couch next to us after we get home from work and are watching TV. I have been really worried about something he does one to two times per night now for the last few weeks. We'll be sitting there watching a show and Bocephus will wake up, yawn and make a piercing whine with his yawn (he always does that), and then he'll put his two front paws off the couch like he's about to get off. Then he'll sit there for an additional minute in that (what I think looks uncomfortable) position, and maybe yawn another time. Then all of a sudden...THUD (loud!)...he hits the ground and doesn't move. In fact, he is asleep. And he stays down there for another hour until he moves on to something else.

Is there anything wrong with this? He doesn't step off of the couch to lay on the floor, he just falls and however he lands he sleeps that way. Just wondering if this is a health problem, or otherwise?

    Thank you for any advise.

Our pit mix does this exact thing, sometimes he'll even sleep for a bit with his front half on the floor and back half on the couch. I don't think it would be a bad thing, unless they're falling onto a hard floor maybe?

My boyfriend calls it an "incoming missle strike".

It's amazing the strange positions that puppies fall asleep in. I was forever having to fish our Lab pup out of her food bowl - fast asleep.

Can't offer any advice for this one? Except maybe padding the floor, ready for when he does fall?? But as for the "yawnscream"..Mia does this twice after waking with the most enormous stretch in between!..I am relieved that all Danes seemm to do this do this! It can be quite ear piercing and I am deaf in one ear!
                Life is good....
