Thursday night I was at a friends house for a little birthday get together. As the night wound down, and everyone left, I stayed behind and helped clean up. Once all the clean up was taken care of I rounded up Bruce (who I bring with me whenever possible) and my things and left.
Being the impatient soul that I sometimes am, I decided to walk across the yard to get to my car instead of following the porch to the driveway, and then to my car.
Following the porch to the driveway is a small garden, which is separated from the yard by small brick partitions. So, to get to my car through the yard I had to hop over the partitions. As soon as my right foot landed just on the other side of the partition it twisted and I felt and heard a loud pop. My foot had gone into a small hole that I couldn't see due to the darkness.
Immediately I dropped to the ground in pain and stayed for several minutes. The entire time Bruce, seeing that I was obviously in pain, was whining and pawing at me to see if I was OK.
I tried to call my friends, however they had turned off their phones and gone to sleep for the night.
So, I called Bruce over to me, and I used him to stabilize myself while hobbling over to my car. I was worried about putting to much weight on him, so I tried my best to support some weight on my ankle, but he never whined once, never tried to move away when I would lean on him. He would actually lean into me!
He helped me get from my car into my apartment as well!
I took some Ibuprofen and iced my ankle that night, the next morning I woke up and went to the Hospital (my regular doc was booked up for a week, and I wasn't waiting that long).
The moral of the story? Bruce is amazing! It would have been a real chore getting around that night without Bruce there to help!
I just thought I would share my story about this helpful and loving Dane!
Take care.
