  • Hip Dysplasia

Again, new Dane Owner, beautiful four month old fawn female.

I dont intend on showing my dog, but I want the best possible health for her and our other dogs. Is Hip Dysplasia something you can spot early on? Or is her awkward sitting stance better explained that she is only a puppy?

    RE: Hip Dysplasia

Hip dysplasia can only be correctly diagnosed by x-rays unless it is a very severe case.

      RE: Hip Dysplasia

If you have a concern, go to your vet and have an xray done.

Word of caution: the hips of a 4 month old Dane puppy are unlike any other "regular" size breed. Even some ortho specialists will look at a Dane puppy's hips and think dysplasia just because of the laxity of the joint at this age.
I wouldnt take one vets advice, but get a few different opinions and make sure the vets are Dane suave.

Also, hopefully you purchased from a reputable breeder that you have a good relationship with........call and talk to them.
