Perhaps you should start your own Bill Carnes Debate group since you dictate who you believe is correct. Your one great leader!!

I don't know where you get "ranting". I have simply made logical well thought out and knowledgable points and since you didn't address my points in my previous post, I assume you agree with them and now see the error of your ways. Hopefully that is the case. I would love you to learn positive methods of handling the poor dogs in your care. I think what you are doing is a great thing. I just don't agree with your outdated methods. Yes, I know they have worked for 20 years but better methods have come along particularly in the last 10 years or so. The world of dog training has advanced significantly. Well informed people keep up with advances in whatever field they are in.

Well behaved danes are not born. They are “made” by responsible and caring dane owners.

          An UPDATE on Hank:

I have a phone consultation set up with the behaviorist. Hank has not growled at my husband since the original post, and my husband is making a great effort. Usually when he goes for a drive/errand he takes the puppies, and leaves Hank with me when I am home alone. Today he took Hank too, which I am sure Hank throughly enjoyed!

Hank is also getting LOTS better with the "off" command and today he gave a VERY mild attempt at getting on the bed--one paw. I asked him to get off the bed and he did so immediately.

I have a positive feeling about this. I am so greatful to all you knowledgable DAne owners for giving us your advice and suggestion: also thanks to those of you who emailed me privately. Thanks so much for caring about my non-dane rescue guy.

I am happy to hear that things are working out for Hank. I have a soft spot for ACDs. I got one that had been tied up for the 1st 8 months of his life and I dearly loved that dog. He became sort of 'my' dog. It was like he knew he was next up for lethal injection and I was his hero or something. I named him Buddy and he was my buddy until I lost him to Cushings disease. Be a good boy Hank, I'm pullin' for ya!

Have you found an Australian Cattle Dog group to join? An online group could really be invaluable to you. I have been around a lot of these dogs and they do behave very different from your run of the mill breeds and can be a real challenge to deal with. They are, as you've found, EXTREMELY loyal dogs. I hope everything works out alright with Hank.

                  Another update

Things are going really well. We even had The Big Test when all five of us(three dogs, two humans) spent quite a bit of time on the roade in the semi last week. Husband drives truck within the state and we decided to spend time as a family. :-)

The truck sleeper is *big* but obviously smaller than a house and so the dogs can get on the bed in the sleeper. I figured it might confuse Hank a little, but he did fine. He did get on the bed when I was in it, but my husband told him to get down (I did too at the same time) and it was fine. He did give it a few tries but no growling and just willing compliance to get off the bed.

At home he hasn't even gotten on the bed again.

I started doing the "Up/down" thing with the puppies and they think it is a SUPER DUPER game. They are still better at the UP than the "off" though!!!

Yes, I found an ACD mailing type list to join and have done so. :-)

That's great to hear! I think having your hubby take Hank along when he used to just take the pups is great for their bond.
