  • you know what grinds my gears?

when people think it's ok to take pictures of my dogs without my permission, and I'M RIGHT THERE HOLDING THE LEASH! and it's triply worse when said person is a vet tech at the vet, while on the job, in her scrubs. you'd thikn they were more professional than that. basic courtesy anyone?? where's that gone? i'm just incredulous!

saddle jokes aside, what grinds your gears? share with me so i can anticipate them better lol!

I would address that with the mgr at the office. I'm sure tgey meant no harm, but it's crossing professional boundaries. In human medicine, that could be considered a HIPPA violation, which can come with huge fines.

Yesterday at the farmers market this lady wanted to take a picture of Eli sitting next to her chihuahua, but Eli tried to sniff it (nicely!) and the thing lunged at him snarling... If your dog is not friendly why are you trying to get him to stand next to my puppy? Ugh.

Or just in general when people ask me "does he bite" or "is he friendly?". Yes he's a vicious monster that's why I'm letting 5 kids feed him cookies. (Lol also yesterday there was this toddler feeding him leaves... I was like Eli those aren't cookies stop taking them... But I think he'd eat anything a child handed him.) This is also just a big pet peeve for me. Please ask "Can I pet him" or "can I say hi" not "is he friendly". Otherwise it makes the assumption that if I don't want someone to pet my dog right now it's because he's unfriendly. But it can just be something else like I'm busy or I'm training him or I don't feel like answering 20 questions right now.

Oh, or when someone picks up their little dog in their arms and shoves it in Eli's face ("Say hi fluffy!") and the dog is terrified and I'm like... please don't do that to your dog... Or just in general when I have to advocate for other people's dogs.

Or when someone's little dog is yapping its head off at Eli while we're walking and he finally looses patience and barks back and the people look at me like I'm walking cujo.... YOUR DOG STARTED IT!

I have a lot.... I'm gonna stop now.

I'm flattered when someone takes her picture, or at least find it amusing. Our vets office actually has patient pictures on their website, they'll even have props to use during holidays. One of my favorite pictures of Lola was taken by the vet techs when she got spayed around Christmas.

When Lola is riding in our Jeep, if we're going slow enough in town I open the sunroof and she loves to stick her head out. At a stop light once someone got out of their car to take her picture.

People usually ask to take Roger's picture. But I hate it when they don't ask if it's ok to pet them. And why do they insist on hugging and then kissing him??? Eww!! .

That is one thing I will never, ever understand . We are at a dog event at the Ritz Carlton and employees from a doggy day care company come up , don't ask if they can touch them and put their face right into the Danes face with the explanation that they are so gentle ........ I tell them if they ever attempt this with my black bitch they will have no face left !! CFS

Well, today Finn grinds my gears! Just kidding, kind of . Having a puppy that we are trying to train, I hate it when people come up to him, ask to pet him (most people have been good about asking, I was surprised), but then they proceed to get him riled up and let him jump all over them, and say "Oh, it's okay, he's a puppy"! I'm like, "no it's not, you'll be a lot less pleased when he does the same thing in a couple months when he's 100 lbs!"

What grinds my gears? Stupid Pit Bulls accompanied by their commensurately stupid owners. I can't stand people that buy a certain breed as a fashion statement and then utterly fail to responsibly socialize or train it.

I suppose my other pet-peeve are those trust fund baby, Subaru-with-"Coexist"-sticker driving 55-year-old liberal hippies that fervently refuse to discipline their dogs because they view it as "oppressive". I'm really not kidding; these people are everywhere-usually located in a .5 mile radius from your local organic food store.

I was walking home from the bar one late night in my early twenties when I saw a golden retriever freely walking and exploring the middle of the main road of my home town in WV. Due to the hour traffic was nonexistent (thank god). I went to see if it had gotten lost and I discovered that her owner was actually watching this from about 30 yards away.

I was severely perplexed as to why the dog was not on a leash and why she was encouraging the dog to think it's okay to walk and play in the middle of the road.

I asked, "Why do you not have her on a leash?"

She replied verbatim: "I don't have her on a leash because I don't believe in 'animal slavery'; she's not my dog, I'm her person."

The amount of idiocy in this statement was so incredibly potent that I vividly remember this experience even though I was in the midst of a blackout. I just stared at her stupid eyes for a moment and walked away without saying anything.

Thanks for this opportunity to take a break from calculus and bitch.

i am totally ok with people taking photos of my dog, and like you, at times am totally flattered by their admiration for cheska and poppy, but not when they don't bother to ask? i think it's just rude, to assume you can take pictures like that. if it were of a human, that would be an invasion of privacy, no? i wonder sometimes of people walking around with their huge dslrs, taking "candids" of strangers. should they not then walk over, introduce themselves, show it to them, and ask if it is ok to keep the photo? i don't know the answer to that.

maybe i'm just a protective mama bear. NOBODY EVEN LOOK AT MY DOG!

I'm sorry I can't help it. It's probably not funny to you but I drawed the picture in my mind. You told the story so well.
