Sliding glass doggy door

Funny you should post this now. After our first fairly nice weather weekend this year, the dogs wanted in/out all evening. I mused how it would be nice to have a remote control patio door so we didn't have to get up all the time. I googled 'remote control patio doors', and there is a device to convert your sliders to be automatic and remote controlled. It runs about $500.
Haven't looked/seen a sliding doggie door though. I have seen patio door inset dog doors, but for small dogs.sigpic

I looked and looked and looked and could not find a doggie door that would fit Phineas or even an adult dane to fit in our slider. We never did find a solution to our slider except to leave it open about 1 1/2 feet. Our slider goes out to an enclosed lenai, so we made a doggie door out of our screen door. But at our house, we can leave the slider open and bugs and whatnot doesn't come in because our lenai is enclosed too. Our screen door has a top and bottom panel. We removed the bottom screen panel and replaced it with overlapping heavy duty plastic flaps that were riveted to the door. Not sure if you can come up with something similiar but that's the best idea I could come up with.
The only other solution I could come up with the slider was to make a doggie door frame within the sliders screen door. Like framing out a doggie door and attach to the slider screen door. But even then, the slider has to be open so the dogs can access it. We didn't go this route because we just leave the door open to the lenai. I live in south FL, so I'm sure this does cause my electric to go up a small bit. However, I only leave it open in the AM and again around dinner hour. My lazy dogs don't move much during the hot day. LOL
Obviously Phin still needs to duck running in the door but the whole bottom panel is now plastic flaps. When it gets too yucky from them pushing through it or the sun starts to dry it out, I just take it off and put on new flaps. It works for us.
It looks like this (crappy pic but it's night):

I love my patio dog door. I bought the largest size Home Depot carried on line. Hank fits with room to spare, but he just about 35". I think it was $152 - delivery included. I shopped around and Home Depot was the best deal I could find here in the Phoenix area.

this is what i have and it comes from http://www.moorepet-petdoors.com/Lar...oors-s/435.htm
what i really love about it is that there are 2 flaps, 6" apart, which provides for really good insulation against the winter cold. it didn't take pea and bentley long at all to figure it out.
i had this put in because pea was having problems squeezing through the dog door that the corgis used to use.

I love the pic of Pea trying to get through the corgi door. I have a schnazuer door installed in our wall and phin often tries to look through it too.Last edited by Angel7292; 04-09-2013, 07:01 AM.sigpic

I got a hale pet door for my wood door, but I think they have sliding door products that could possibly work:

These are well insulated doors so they work really well in cold climates.
Here's ours:
