There have been times Mister has clicked his teeth several times together when he's excited to see one of us. I've never seen a dog do that before - I've seen owls click their beaks when they're feeling stressed.
Any thoughts on what that could be all about?

Our Gretchen who passed away last year would click her teeth when we would come home. We figured she was happy to see us. It would crack us up.

My Maggie does this...it almost looks likes she's shivering! Only she will do it at random times! When she's falling asleep, when she's watching me on the computer, when she's done eating, or any old time! She used to do it a lot when she was a puppy and I always thought maybe it was her way of saying "hey mommy I'm cold!" but she still does it! Today she did it randomly and I looked over at her and she did it again.lol I know she's not cold since it's like 80deg. in my apartment today!

Scarlett "chitters" her teeth. When we are wrestling with her and she puts my arm in her mouth (she never puts pressure, just "chomps" on it) and I say NO BITE, she'll back off and start chittering her teeth instead.

Scout and Horatio do it too -- but it is usually followed by a nibbling frenzy. Horatio nibbles on the blankets or pillow, or whatever is soft nearby. Scout on the other hand likes to nibble ME! He will nibble my arm occasionally and often tweek me enough to pinch me! He also tries to nibble my chin, and after a kiss he will quickly give me a lite nibble on the nose!

          I love my boys!

In addition to the above, some "chitter" (love that word) when they are cold, and in the case of intact males, when a female is in heat.

Hoss will do this too! He just started this "Chitter" and I was worried that it was another nervous thing he was starting! Whew, I'm glad it's just another "Dane" thing. Thanks for asking this question!

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why. ~Author Unknown

Carlie never did that, but Reilly does it to Dave. Ayla has been doing it to me and Dave. She is very gentle, and it is obviously an affection thing.

Cooper does this too! He seems to do it when it's either really cold out or if he's all excited. And I almost have it on cue! I ask him "are you purring?!" and he does it haha!

Gibson's teeth chatter when he is really excited. Usually when company comes over. I think it's kinda cute.

Anubis clacks first thing in the morning when it is time to have breakfast. He does it everyday. He also does it when I come home after being gone for a few hours.
