"If we could live like wolves, we would never hate our brothers and sisters just for being different colors. We would live together in harmony, knowing that the well-being of others would be the basis of our own well-being. We would have a sensible order. We would look after Mother Nature because we would understand that we need Her to survive, and we would kill for one reason only - for food. What a perfect place the world would be, if we could only live like wolves." -Anonymous

I rescued tag
As we all know, Great Dane Rescues are always short of actual cash to help those Danes in distress. Despite this, Rescues trudge on doing spectacular work for the breed we love. A cash shortage is very evident in our present economic climate, yet rescues find a way to get things done. I admire all those that are dedicated to rescue and how they improvise, adapt and overcome adversity. This happens all day long, every day, yet most never hear of the good work that's being done.
I have added a small heart image below user's names (those that have rescued) with text saying, "I rescued." This is to bring more awareness to the cause on the chance that it may peak the interest of those that are first time Dane owners, or those that want to add another Dane to their family. Getting cash donations is mandatory for rescues, however, awareness is also key to their ongoing struggle. My thinking is...less Danes in rescue, less money needed for those that are.
If the addition of the image and text prompts just one person to rescue, then the little bit of extra work will be worthwhile.
Rescue Danes certainly need money on their behalf, but more importantly, they need a forever home to call their own.
Thanks to all that have rescued and thanks to all that have this in their plans.

I don't post a lot because I am more of an observer and gain wonderful knowledge, laugh a lot and cry too. But I do have to say the word "rescue" seems so out of place when it comes to Bevo because he is one of the greatest things that has ever happened to our family. I believe in many ways he rescued us.
I recently made my first post on Craigslist, a response to a rescue basher (complaining about the prices), they had me so riled up it wasn't even funny. Now that we have made it past the initial cost of adoption (which in reality was not that bad compared to reputable and byb breeders), the "must haves", the enormous crate, vet visits, etc., I am trying to make a monthly donation to our rescue, MAGDRL. Of course I still get my heart strings tugged by the likes of "Blue" who was posted in one of the forums and local non-dane animals. I would rather go without something I really don't need and hope that it helps one of souls who can not help themselves. This is also the lesson I am trying to teach my son who donated part of his money too for Bevo's cousins.
Thank you for getting the word out. We hope to do it again in another 12-24 months.
Rebecca
