  • Air Canada to allow pets to travel in the passenger cabin.

Hooray! As of 1 July, dogs and cats will be permitted to fly in the cabin with their owners for an additional fee of $50 for domestic flights and $100 for international flights. Catch is, of course, that the pet and carrier must not weigh more than 22lbs combined. ARGH!

Pretty insignificant news for us dane owners, but if you have other pets that are within this weight range that you'd like to fly with in Canada, this is useful and even a bit exciting. Air Canada stopped allowing pets in the cabin in 2006, but public outcry has convinced the airline to reverse its decision.

Maybe one day, they'll really make changes with leaps and bounds and stop discriminating against pet size. It's like saying overweight people aren't allowed to fly.

    Anyway...full article in Macleans.

that's great...the only concern I see is for those that have pet allergies....sure they filter air on planes but to what degree and how do you determine seating etc. My wife for one is very sensitive to cats.

Really? I'm not sure...I didn't even know that Oprah ever had Danes. Was that recently?
I think this was Gibson, world's tallest Dane (the big Harl who recently lost a leg to bone cancer), not one of Oprah's personal dogs. Guess she flew him in for the show?

Isn't Midwest Express the airline Oprah used to fly in the largest dog ( a huge Harl)? She just bought an entire row of seats for the dog to stretch out in...

Oh my gosh...that's awful!! That's the exact reason we drove Winston out to LA. I would be a nervous wreck flying him in a crate under the plane.

I did recieve a phone call a couple months ago from Midwest Express airlines and they will fly Winston in the cabin of the plane in the very first row (because that has the most space). With him being the Milk-Bone Spokesdog they consider him a "celebrity" - LOL. They do have a nice pet program, but hopefully some day airlines will allow larger pets in the cabin on flights.

Well this is cool of Air Canada!

    But...

My CAT couldn't even fly! He's 18-19 lbs and with the carrier would probably be over the 22lb limit! LOL!
