  • Wanted to share this

I was looking through a folder of mine where I keep poems I like and found this yesterday after bringing Queeta's ashes home. I couldnt keep the tears away, but wanted to share it for those of you that havent seen it before.

    Let Me Go

If I should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this--the last battle--can't be won.
You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
    When the time comes,
    Please, let me go.
Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.

Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved
Don't grieve that it must be you
    Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close--we two-- these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I couldn't even make it through the whole thing...crying. I'm glad you were able to bring her home w/you yesterday. Thinking of you.

      so beautiful

      and right on.
For all MY words of wisdom I will read that for strength and support when the time comes for me to do the hard thing again. And since I will never be without my 4 legged companions, it will inevitably come again...
Thank you for sharing the poem and your journey with Queeta.

Thanks for sharing, I will pass it on to my mom - she just freed her beloved cat from the pain of cancer.

That's very nice and thanks for posting. It made me think of my first (and only) dog that I have had to PTS. This was 20 years ago and I REGRET to say that I did not stay with her as she slipped away. I can still see her as they led her down the hall. She stopped to look back at me as if to say, 'mom, aren't you coming'? Just typing that memory is making my eyes well up with tears. I will never let a friend go alone again. Hopefully I will never have to deal with that situation. I hope the poem makes you feel somewhat comforted about Queeta.
