    started a topic shampoo

    shampoo

    Hey all-
I was wondering what kind of shampoo everyone uses. I'm trying to find one that doesn't hurt if it gets in their eyes and one that is very good for their coats. Any suggestions???

I don't dilute it, just pour it on. It doesn't lather like shampoo, but love the way their coats feel after it. I could live without the floor smell for the first day, but oh well.

I wouldn't worry about a reaction, I use it on all my boarding dogs if I have to bathe them, many with allergies and no adverse reaction from any.

I've never had their coats be dry and with Ms Gwen and her love of the mud I bathe her pretty frequently.

WOW! Murphy's Oil Soap? Really? I've never heard of that? Any special instructions on using it, like do you dilute it? Should I try it on a small area first to make sure there's no reaction?

I'm currently using the OxyMed shampoo and that seems to do a good job, but now I'm really curious about whether the Murphy Oil Soap would do something extra special?

    Thanks.

Yeah, I love my zoomgroom. I don't use any other brushes because w/ a danes thin single coat it is so easy to scratch their skin w/ anything harsher, even a shedding blade, which can damage the hair if used too often.

it seems to work well I notice that scarlett seems to have a surge of dander after bathing but that clears in a few days. She doesn't seem irritated though
My Isis has this problem. I think the bath kinda stirs up skin that just hadn't sloughed yet. Probably because I am a groomer and have 4 dogs and I just get too lazy to brush my dogs as often as they really need it!! I have found that if I brush her w/ a zoomgroom before the bath or use a nubby bath mitt during the sudsing, then a conditioner this doesn't happen. I also like to use puppy tearless, no perfumes or dyes, then follow w/ a conditioner that is no perfumes or dyes, and of course rinse extremely well, I spend as much time on the final rinse as I did on the whole rest of the bath. I don't mind a healthy dog smell, so I don't feel the need to cover it up.

ditto on the murphy's. We kept various other shampoos (many medicated) for the rescues, but for our personal crew the murphy's always worked.

I use hydrapearls shampoo. It hydrates their skin. It also makes dark coats really shiny. My dobe always looked spiffy after a bath.

I use baby shampoo and Dr. Bonner's shampoo. I specifically like the peppermint one as it is a natural flea repellent.

Whatever is on sale. If your dog doesn't have any skin issues and isn't in need of frequent bathing, it's not going to matter much what shampoo you use.
