  • "Its me or the Dog" ANPL

Did anyone catch "its me or the dog" last night on animal planet?
There was a family that had a black dane. And a disruptive 3 year old male. I was excited to see them on tv. I watch animal planet and Dog Whisperer (Cesar is awesome) alot. I had been asking myself how come I never seem to see great danes on here?
    Thought I would share.

Yeah saw it, typical Dane issues caused by the owner's lack of ability to be assertive and alpha without being abusive.

Looks like to me Cesar has better approach and response from animals than Victoria does. I notice that she rarely handles the dogs like shes affraid shes gonna get hair all over her black outfit. Plus she seems like shes more about what kind of convertible sports car she is going to arrive in.

maybe im missing something cause I have not seen Cesar as being abusive or over aggresive towards dogs. And using punishment I have not seen either. He does explain alot to the owners that alot of the pets behavior problems stimulate from the owners personal and behavior problems. Which I agree with alot. I just feel his teachings seem to react quicker than hers do.

I don't watch Cesar regularly like I used to. The huge controversy is the alpha rolling. It is an outdated technique. I am not a trainer so therefore I cannot correctly verse on topic. Others will chime in I'm sure when they are well rested. LOL!

In the second link I posted (I think the second) Heather gave a link to an episode of Dog Whisperer and there was good conversation about that. You should go through and read the threads.

Those who don't know better think he is great. Those who do know something about training know his techniques are outdated, can be inhumane, etc.

However, I heard from a friend of mine recently that because Cesar has gotten such a bad rap he is starting to change his way of training.

I can't stand him and think he is just repulsive.

Looks like you were provided some links. Search and you will find lots of heated discussions. I certainly didn't mean to start one! lol I just couldn't help myself

                        I'm with you on Cesar.
I don't know Victoria's background with dogs but Cesar's experiences as a kid on his Grandfather's farm in Mexico taught him the basics of "pack behavior."

Altho Cesar has a good life now he had some difficult years. He also takes on the really hard cases where he is the dog's last resort. And I really love "Daddy" his Pit Bull. What a gentle, sweet model of his breed.

It doesn't have to be either/or..when it comes to Victoria and Cesar.

I still dont see that his ways are inhumane. Ive never seen him strike an animal. I see ppl on here suggesting the pinch collar. which seems alot more inhumane than anything I have seen Cesar do.
All pets have differant personalities which all require some differant training methods. I dont have a problem with Victorias methods. I just think Cesars seem to be more effective and probably last longer.

I agree doesnt have to be either or. Both have great methods. And "Daddy" is one of the best behaved gentle Pit Bulls I have ever seen. Doesnt look like he is fearful of Cesar. I read on those links ppl say he makes the dogs fearful. Doesn't appear that way to me. This topic apparently is very opinionated just like raising children. Everyone is not going to raise their children and disipline them the same. Just means that each individual requires differant disipline methods, and some work and some dont.

You are right. Not everyone will raise children the same. Not everyone believes in the same method as training either. To each his own and that is why you should do what you feel is best. I don't agree with Danes living outside, but that is me and my opinion. You do what you feel is best for your dog
