  • Iowans?

Anybody from Iowa or hear from anyone from Iowa? I heard on the news tonight that 83 of the 90-something counties are declared disaster areas. The pictures look really bad! Hope everyone is staying dry!

    RE: Iowans?

I just got an email from a girl that does the pictures for my website. She used her phone to email me, but she is ok. She said it is horrible.

It's unbelievable. Some of the roads that are closed are ones that I would have never thought were in danger of flooding out.

It's been amazing to watch so many people pitch in to help sandbag and assist others, though!

We are lucky in that our town is not near a river, so we're safe and dry...er, well soggy, but not floating!

My heart goes out to everyone in the Midwest right now...how scary and devastating...I was especially sad to hear of those four boyscouts...I can't imagine...

          RE: Iowans?

I'm in Wisconsin, and I think we almost floated away. Some of the roads around here are still flooded out and closed, but our house didn't sustain any flood damage. I think we got 13 inches of rain in one weekend and it's now a record. Luckily the tornadoes missed us too, but I spent alot of time in the basement last weekend fearing them! All I heard last weekend and into the beginning of this week were sirens!

Saw the boyscout camp in Iowa on the news and how 6 boys died in a tornado. So sad.

Isn't Indiana about to float away too?

Hey! I am in Wisconsin too (my name is also Mandy :e) Our basement had about 3 inches of water in it, but otherwise it is fine. We did have a few accidents in the house with the puppy. She refused to go into the lawn...I mean swamp.

I see the midwest/great lakes area is supposed to get more rain this week. When will it end?! Can't we pump some of the water over the very dry SW?

My neighbor's yard always has standing water in it in the spring but this year it hasn't disappeared like it usually does by June. The mosquitos love it. I'd donate blood but the mosquitos have taken a pint already. x(

                RE: Iowans?

This weather is crazy! I was thinking of you all in the flooded states. Glad to hear your ok. We lost power for almost a week due to the storms in Michigan last Sunday. We have a cottage in Cadillac and they got about 8 inches of rain in one day. The docks are underwater and boats were floating off the hoists. My Dad said in all his years the lake has never been that high.

It’s so sad. My husband was in Indiana for work and doing some aid. He said it is just awful and terribly sad.

                Stay safe everybody!

                  RE: Iowans?

I am in Kansas City and its seems like every other night we are headed to the basement for a Tornado Warning.

Three weeks ago my old neighborhood was destroyed by a tornado.

I cannot wait for this extreme weather to be over.

                      RE: Iowans?

We did RAGBRAI the last two years and I keep seeing towns on the news that we rode through totally flooded. We aren't doing the ride this year but I hope the rest of the bikers spend their entire stimulus check in Iowa. The little towns will need it! I hope RAGBRAI isn't going to have to be changed to the Register's Annual Great Boat Ride Across Iowa. My butt would hurt less...
