  • help w/ dog run - ground cover & waste disposal

We are building a run for our dogs in the hope of saving what is left of our lawn! It will be approx. 20' X 100' and right now has a dirt floor. We are trying to decide what ground cover would be best. I am hoping for ease of clean-up and good drainage, and was thinking either wood chips or small stones. It is a HUGE area, so cost is a factor.

Also, has anyone ever used the Doggie Dooley system?

We use small pea-gravel for our dog run, and it works well. It's easy to sanitize and always cheap to haul another yard or two when it wears thin.

Hubby made me a doggy- dooley, but I have no more poop trouble since swiching to raw. Now how's THAT for a chance to push a raw diet?!!

What does this mean - "I have no more poop trouble since switching to raw"? Your dogs don't poop anymore? Isn't this dangerous? Or do you mean the poop is now pleasant to walk around in and track in the house?

        Just ordered one yesterday!

But Like Gwenna we don't have a bad poop problem either! When you feed a Great Dane raw food, the poop looks more like you own a very small dog. I think that's what she meant by no problem!

We don't have a dog run, but use the pea gravel too, in a sectioned off Area that Jesse uses. Very easy to pick up. And like mentioned above just add more when needed. She never goes on the lawn. She knows exactly where her toilet is.

Keep pushing me towards raw, Gwenna. I'm almost there. Just trying to find the best place to buy at this point.

Raw fed dogs have a lower volume of stools. Not to get into too much gross detail <G> but they also have less smell and disintegrate much faster.

If you walked in a raw fed dog's poop a day after it was on the ground, it probably would just crumble...so there wouldn't be anything to stick to your shoe to track into the house.
