  • sweet jorah got his angel wings

thought i'd post this here since i don't know how many of the regulars look at the memorial subforum.

jorah was diagnosed on december 2 with kidney failure, stage 4, the worst. over the next 2.5 weeks, my vet and i tried everything possible and nothing worked. numerous medications, subq fluids at home every other day, and finally, 2+ days of hospitalization with i.v. fluids. jorah didn't eat enough to keep a bird alive. i tried everything...raw, cooked meat, every kind of noodle i could get my hands on, fresh green tripe...you name it, we tried it. kidney failure brings with it constant nausea. even cerenia injections didn't help. my vet called me after the first 2.5 days of hospitalization and told me his blood work was just getting worse and she gave him very little chance of pulling through. i held him in my arms and he died so peacefully, i know he was just tired of fighting.

in my worst nightmares, i couldn't imagine losing him after only 1 year, 4 months with him. jorah was the absolute best dog and the BEST ambassador for the breed. there wasn't a living thing he didn't love be it kids, adults, other dogs, even the office cat at the vet's office got slobbery kisses. i miss him more than i can put into words. there are dogs that travel through our lives that are so extra special and jorah was definitely one.

i have kept in touch with jorah's former owners who gave him a wonderful life before he came to live with me. they are, understandably, heartbroken but they know i did everything i could.

jorah was cremated with his favorite pillow. he came home last week. i am shattered.

How heartbreaking. He looks and sounds like an incredible sweet dog. I'm so sorry, your time with him was way to short.

My heart is broken for you, but thanks so much for making me smile with Jorah's pics!

I'm so sorry that he went so soon. Crazy how fast they can imprint on our hearts.

You're a saint for trying everything possible! And I love that his favorite pillow went with him...that's an amazing idea.

                        Hang in there. :-)
