  • New Puppy Tips/Shopping List Needed

It's been almost 15 years since we had a puppy. We are getting a female Great Dane in the beginning of March. I'm just wondering what things I should buy (even if it may seem obvious) and what tips you may have!

    Thank you in advance!

Make sure your puppy is coming from a responsible breeder. Feed the same food the breeder was feeding for at least the first 3-4 weeks then if you want to switch do a slow switch over 7-14 days. Make sure the food is a good quality high meat/meat meal food with safe calcium/phosphorous levels. Do not over feed. Do not spay/neuter under 18 months of age. Get good chew toys that are the appropriate size. Some good choices.. Kongs, Jolly balls, Nylabones, Cuz toys, Antlers, Hard rubber balls.. always make sure to supervise when your pup is chewing on toys. Get an adult size crate with a divider. use stainless steel, ceramic or glass dishes not plastic. If you raise dishes only go as high as the elbows/chest. Take out every hour at first and after naps, playing, eating, drinking.. Make sure you TAKE out and praise highly when the pup goes in the right place. Get into obedience classes as soon as you can. Training starts on day 1.
