I was wondering if anyone knew of a good place to get a Danes ears cropped in Wisconsin?

I suggested he talk to his breeder, especially since they dont even have the pup yet. This is what breeders do, they support their buyers.
At some point, buyers need to step up and expect breeders to stand behind their pups/dogs and not expect other breeders to do it for them.
Yep, guess Im a little sour on the whole thing. I got more emails/calls from buyers who want my help because they purchase from breeders who wont do what they want ME to do. Part of the purchase price is THE AFTER SALE SUPPORT, ITS THE KNOWLEDGE, ITS THE TIME, AND THE EFFORT.
And apparently my time is free cuz I spend a large majority of my time helping people who pay the same price and sometimes more for a pup from bybers and then go to the reputable breeders for help.
and BTW, I told this buyer (in a PM) to call around to a few vets (of which I gave him two specific areas Green Bay and Brookfield) and AFAIK, they didnt do it and want me to find them one.Carolyn

Now if they rescued, (truly rescued), a pup, then fine, ask away. But, if they're buying from a breeder, ASK YOUR BREEDER!
I'm glad you posted what you did...it might give pause to those that have to ask on a public forum what they should be asking the person(s) that they are purchasing their puppy from. If they're not worth getting advise from, then they're sure as he** not worth purchasing a puppy from.Last edited by kwhit; 03-31-2012, 09:54 AM.

So to the OP, if you do not have a breeder that supports you then I suggest getting to know other dane OWNERS that can give you advice based on their experience. DOL is an amazing place, but maybe try to find dane owners around your area that you can meet and talk to in person? That way for future local specific questions you have, you will have people you can go to in addition to DOL.

I know you asked me via PM as well, but I just want to reiterate the fact that the breeder sent you a name of a vet and doesn't handle the cropping is a red flag to me. As far as I know, a good breeder will take care of the cropping and send the pup home after the stitches are removed. Not just give you the name of a vet that does it. I agree with the above poster that said to look for a new breeder....
When we got our first Dane Winston, his breeder did exactly what yours is doing - gave us the name of a vet. Once he was cropped I struggled with taping Winston's ears and had no breeder support....it became a very frustrating process. Fast forward 5 years, Bentley came to us already cropped with his stitches removed and tons of breeder assistance during the taping process. It was a much less stressful process because I knew what I was doing with his breeders help.
Find a breeder that really does offer the support you need for cropping, if you don't I am sure they won't be much help if any serious issues arise.Melisa, Bentley and Ella
