Hello everyone!
I've posted on this site a couple of times since finding it a few weeks ago and I thought I should introduce myself. After all, here I am asking questions and offering advice and no one even knows anything about me!
I could type a novel explaining all about my history with dogs, kids, life, etc.. But I'll keep it short.
I am a stay-home mom who's kids are now all in school. I am unable to have more children, but wasn't ready to be without a baby at home. So, I decided to search for a new "baby". After MUCH reading, I decided to get a Great Dane. After MORE reading and MANY phone calls, I found a breeder who I really liked and respected. They were having a litter due this fall and so I requested a puppy. Nearly 1 year later, I was able to bring my baby boy home on September 1st. His name is Vinzent and he is pure black with the exception of about 3 white hairs on his chest. He is now 11 1/2 weeks old and is quickly becoming one of the love's of my life! He is everything I hoped for and he has already managed to convert me from a "non-licking" person to a "give me more slobbery kisses" kinda girl. As soon as I can figure out how to post a picture, I will.
Anyway, I have been in animal rescue for many years and have fostered dogs of all types. Through the years I have become fairly experienced in animal behavior and training, however, I am always looking to learn more. I intend to train Vinzent for therapy work and I am starting him in socialization classes at the local kennel club next week. His obedience training has already begun at home with me and he is doing exceptionally well. Very smart boy.
Well, that's the basics. I look forward to corresponding with everyone on this forum. After only a couple of weeks with Vinzent, I realize just what a unique and special breed he is. And, after reading more than 10 books, I see there is still much to learn.
