Welcome to the group... you are correct that chocolate" is not an accepted color for breeding or showing and is not a color that a responsible breeder deliberately breeds for. Make sure you feed a good quality food with the safe calcium/phosphorous levels. Do not over feed... start training now and have fun.

Sorry but if the breeder deliberately bred for the color then they aren't breeding to breed standard thus making them irresponsible. As far as CKC and AKC saying it isn't an accepted color that is not the case, they are a registry only and don't care about color only in registering purebred dogs from the same breed.. it is the Breeds parent club that determines the accepted colors for breeding and showing.. It should not be offensive to get correct info especially since this is an educational forum. The info was in no way meant to offend you or make you defensive... A responsible breeder does get mismarks on occasion , it does/can happen in even the most carefully planned and researched litters, however they never deliberately breed or advertise the mismarks/off colors.. They also do all the appropriate health testing .. No one has a problem with her color at all and the comments on color aren't there to be mean... Love her, enjoy her, have fun with her...

And get health insurance for her since she may have come from a byb.

If anyone else is reading this, please know that the "off" colors are the first and most easily recognizable of the "bad breeder red flags". Also, is 1. not showing their dogs, 2. not health testing their dogs (CHIC or OFFA) 3. selling puppies less than 8 weeks old, or two puppies at once, among others.
