  • "Bio Sponge" for loose stool

I heart about this on IBD dogs list, and tried it with Shamu; and few of my friends tried it with their dogs too. While it wouldn't help when there is an underlining issue causing diarrhea/lose stool, with minor cases of upset stomach because *somebody ate something he wasn't suppose to eat*, or other random causes, it's been a great help.

So just wanted to share; and wonder if anyone else tried it too?

PS: when I mentioned it to one of my friends, after she looked at ingredients, she said "Oh that's what our mom was giving to us when we were little" (human kids) So it's not something new

Edited to add: with Shamu, that was the *only* supplement that somewhat works, and we tried it all. When she gets upset stomach, even drugs don't help much

It kind of annoys me that it doesn't really say on the website what "bio sponge" actually is. Is it a chemical, a clay? When my kiddos get diarrhea I give them a diatomaceous earth that also has a clay in it. They work together to help flush out the toxins and also to bind the poo together. My kiddos were having diarrhea off and on for over a year. We had several fecals done, no evidence of worms or anything. Several rounds of metronidazole, it always came back. I switched their food a couple of times and than finally went home cooked. None of this helped the diarrhea go away except the diatomaceous earth/clay mixture. It cured what ailed them and it didn't come back.

i tried biosponge when one of my mini horses had chronic diarrhea. it didn't help and i finally narrowed it down to the daily dewormer i was using! once i stopped using it, red's stools became completely normal and stayed that way.

Bio Sponge is Di-Tri-Octahedral Smectite (clay). I have used it successively in horses with diarrhea and I see that Platinum Performance has a human formulation too.

We switched our boy to Nature's Variety Instinct Raw for his IBD. He went from explosive diarrhea to firm stool in one day. The Instinct Raw contains Montmorillonite Clay. After a month on the Instinct Raw we have been able to switch him to TOTW (grain free) kibble and he continues to do well.

This is interesting, thanks for sharing. Logan has a pretty sensitive stomach and we usually use endosorb for issues like that, but it's good to have a back up plan.
