  • pexy quote low? 250

I met with our vet about having Elvis' pexy. He said he would do an incisional tube pexy. He said he has done dozens of them without any problems. He mentioned he is conservative about cutting into a dog unless they've bloated before, but after explaining my concerns about our active lifestyle, and not always being able to observe Elvis for an entire hour after meals, he agreed it might be a good idea.

I have no reason to doubt his skills, and my family has had animals with him for 5+ years and have been happy. My only surprise/concern was that he quoted the surgery for $250.00. Isn't that low? Are there any red flags that any of you can see?

I finally got Harley's pexy quoted and it was only 350.....however, after the bloodwork, IVs and all the medications, final cost will be between 7 and 8 hundred. So maybe 250 isn't all the low? This will be my first pexy, so I'm not so sure about it.....

I wouldn let price worry me, many vets charge based on what is actually cost vs labor others seem to get as much as possible.
Pexy prices I have heard around me are 250-400.
Just as some vets always charge office visit some don't, even those range from 15-60 bucks, blood work and other things may not count.

it all sound good to me and if you are worried you could always get a second opinion with a price "".

I wouldn't worry about the price as much, but I would make sure that the quote included pre-surgical blood work and any meds you will need afterwards.

Phineas is going on Jan 11th. Our vet quoted us $720 - $930... He always gives you best and worse case scenario so there is no financial surprises afterwards. This is for his neuter and pexy plus blood work, meds, etc. Soup to nuts.

thanks everyone for your input. It sounds like maybe I just got the surgery quote and the extra will be determined later. Good to know.

Just now seeing this. Molly was pexied during her spay so it only added 250 to 300 to the spay bill. Our total for Crosby's neuter (no pexi) Molly's spay and pexi plus pain meds was just over 700.00 total.

We did their pre-op blood work the week prior, including a clotting factor test. I can't remember what that ran off the top of my head but I think it was under 100.00 each. I would say if it was all together on one bill it would have been between 900 and 1000 for everything on both dogs. My vet isn't the cheapest around, but certainly not the most expensive either.

I'm not sure if that was helpful or just more confusing...lol. 250 seems a little low, seems like you might have an additional cost for anethesia, pain meds, blood work...but I could be wrong. I would call and make sure what that 250 includes so you don't have any surprises!

i have my quote for spay, pex and micro chipped, 450.00 includes anesthesia and whole list of things. We go to an animal hospital and they are fantastic with everyone that I know, they also try to be very helpful and let you make payments for when people cant pay all at once. Its a family owned practice and they are all about treating you right.

I paid 3 and change for Moxie's spay and pexi including blood work, pain meds, etc. My Vet is a low cost spay/neuter clinic as well as a reg vet practice and they try to keep their prices as low as possible. There were two vets at her surgery as well as another vet asked to be present to observe the procedure as she had never done one before. Also, one of the volunteer vet techs who was there works in anesthesia (sp) at a local hospital- that was nice too.

Toby is going for neuter and pexi tomorrow and its gonna be around 500 for everything. We do drive a little bit to our vet but they are awesome and their prices very reasonable. Did a ton of research before we got him.

I think I could fly there have my dog pexied and fly back cheaper. Seriously how are the prices here so outragious! Jazz's lap pexy (#1) was 2500, open pexy #2 which was more involved was 1500--- 2 separate clinics. I am dreading what Blues will be as he weighs more! Seriously, thinking about a road trip!

Not many pexy in our area so not much shopping around. Dakota already bloated and I just wanted someone experienced to minimize a terrible outcome. At the Univ. of PA our bill was 1700.00 and change. Included was 2 nights stay, extra meds because they thought she would "stress bloat" and a chest exray because they thought she had a wet cough. Oh and included with price was a resident that slept with her all night! LOL!!! I loved that kid!

I think the lap pexy is always more. Our vet doesn't have the equipment for it, but he made a recommendation for a surgeron friend and they wanted $1700 for the lap not including the meds and bloodwork. So we are going with the incisional with our regular vet for the $720-930! Plus we would had to drive all the way up to Gainesville to have it done (about 4ish hours north of me).
