  • Broken claw...please help

I just notice Thor has a broken nail/claw on his front paw. It is broken into the quick. Do I cut it off anyway or leave it? I'm just not sure what to do. My husband just trimmed his nails last week.

It looks painful. Any advice would be great...thanks.

Is it hanging by a thread or still mostly attached? Is it bleeding heavily? Is your pup yelping or limping?

Leave it. You can cut the part that is not attached to the quick but think about it as a toenail. If it split would you just tear it off or would you let it fall off naturally.

No current bleeding. No yelping or limping. I would say mostly attached? It just looks gross, you can tell it bled at some point. You can see the inside part of the nail I'm guessing it's the quick.

Who knows he may have chewed it and made it that way.

It it's not bleeding and he's not limping or sad about it, I would leave it alone. Give the quick a chance to heal for a few days and then look at it again. Nail injuries look terrible, I know!

Hi i think he got it stuck on something and pulled it off he would not chew to the quick.I would cut it off do you have quick stop?If not flour should stop the bleeding. But i am a groomer and would have no prombem doing this.If you leave it hanging it will just get caught on more things good luck.

You can try using nail glue or superglue (carefully of course!! I can imagine some bad oopsies with that!!) to secure the nail.

Hank broke one and I fiddle with it for months and the whole nail eventually came off. He was fine and it never damaged the quick.

I agree with Cheryl. Cut it off & use quickstop to stop the bleeding. That is what your vet would do.
