  • An entire stick of butter.....

That is what Zara just took off the table and ate. Other than high cholestral..... any problems that you can think of ?

    Extreme happiness?
The willingness to risk discipline FOREVER to get more "nummy stuff".

    Maybe a little gas.
Maybe some soft bowls (it IS dairy)

But if butter made dogs ill my old Pitbull would have (cheerfully) died of overdose years ago.

I had put some bacon grease in a bowl to cool down before I put it in the fridge. Ursie ate it all. Long story short, she got sick and we took her to the Vet. Pancreatitis. That was years ago and she'd do it again in a heartbeat. I don't think butter is on the same level, but I don't know. You'll know if she's seriously affected. Don't worry too much, but be aware.

When my ex and his Dane were living with me, he (the ex) had just gotten a new stick of butter out of the fridge and put it on the butter tray and walked away for a minute without putting the lid on the tray. He went back out to the kitchen and the tray was still sitting there but the butter was gone. I didn't have my Dane yet, just my Boxer. So we looked at the boys and didn't see any evidence. After searching for the missing butter for a few minutes (in a 734 sqft apartment - not too many places it could hide) the ex decided to open his Danes mouth. Well, there sat the butter. Completely unharmed. Well, aside from a little slobber. But he didn't chew it at all. Just stuck the whole stick in and held it in his closed mouth. We couldn't even tell it was in there. LOL!

Hope your pup doesn't get sick!!!

Zara has on omore than one occasion done the hide the stick of butter in her mouth, and I usually manage to rescue it. However.....this time, she ran out the dog door, and ..... glossy coat maybe ?

            Thanks all.

My first thought would be loose stool. My second thought would be possible vomiting.

Patty, Same thing happened to me. Daisy popped open a coffee can lid and ate the bacon grease that was in it. She vomited ALL OVER THE HOUSE!! I guess it came up fast enough that she had no pancreatitis.

              ..... glossy coat maybe ?
              LOL, yes, maybe!

Murray has had a stick of butter before and survived without any problems. He gets the droolies over butter and will steal it any chance he gets and I forget.

And here I thought Magnum was weird for doing this. I had left the butter dish on the counter not thinking anything of it and went downstairs while Magnum was eating. He usually comes down once he is done but when he didn't and I couldn't hear him, I went upstairs and he was one the counter licking the butter from the dish. The butter is now kept on top of the frig. No ill effects thankfully. He also popped the lid off of my Coolatta one day when I left him in the car to run into the bank. I was gone for maybe 6-7 mins. My cup was empty. Zoomies and runny stool for the rest of the day. That was so not fun.

I've got one cat that will kill for butter, LOL! I can't let butter soften unattended anywhere with her around. She's a big fan of bread too.

With a big puppy, you'll probably just get some loose stools for a day or two.

So far no ill effects. I have a feeling there may be some loose stool in the yard later on, but no vomiting or other symptoms of a tummyache.
