  • Swollen Elbow

Hi, My name is Stacey and am a first time Great Dane Owner. I rescued my male Fawn Great Dane when he was six weeks old and now he is 13 months. His name is Diesel and has been a very active and playful puppy until recently. About six weeks ago he was outside playing with our other dog and he came inside limping. The next day he didn’t want to put any weight on his left leg for several days. He has had several xrays done as well as an ultrasound and a fine needle aspiration. Everything has come back normal so far. He is still limping and his left leg is starting to get pretty skinny from not walking on it much anymore. His left elbow is has a good size knot on it and has been there for several weeks without every changing in size. The next thing his vet wants to do in a joint tap and biopsy. Just thought I would check in here to see if anyone else has every had an issue like this. They are fairly certain it isn’t OCD or any issues with the bone. Thanks in advance!

I would not have a joint tap done until you have consulted with a orthopedic specialist.

The orthopedic surgeon is the one who recommend it. Can I ask why you don’t think he should have it done?

Taping of joints can lead to serious infections in the joint … this is why I recommended a specialist.
