  • "Water" Danes

I've never seen any of the Danes at the Dog park play in the doggie pools....do any danes like to play in the water to cool off? For now, Crash seems to HATE water. Bathtime is the devil. Do any of your danes at least TOLERATE water?

My danes love to swim, Apollo likes to lay in the river and chew on a log, Anaka like to swim with a purpose, like chasing the ducks, but they hate baths and my girl likes the hose, my boy sometimes likes the hose but sometimes is afraid of it
I got them a baby pool to cool off, Anaka drinks out of it from the side and Apollo stands in it and bites the water. They have never laid down in it to cool off, I think it is too small

Brembo loves to swim. It seems like of the Danes I know it's about 50-50 on whether they love water or want nothing to do with it.

We introduced her to it as a puppy by playing around the goldens, labs, and other dogs that love water. We'd throw her toy barely in the water at all and she'd reach for it, get it, and then play tug with the other dogs in the shallow parts. We started throwing her toy a little bit farther each time, and at one point another owner threw his dog's toy out for his lab to get and Brembo went after it. She didn't get there before the lab did, but at some point she got to the spot where her feet didn't touch the ground any more. She looked shocked for a second and then started swimming and hasn't looked back since. People all the time say there MUST be some lab in her b/c they've never seen a Dane swim, but we actually know quite a few who do. They're usually pretty shocked when she gets out of the water and is clearly taller than a mix.

We have a creek behind our house and my female used to love plowing into it, regardless of what the person on the other end of the leash wanted My male on the other hand won't even get near my female while she's drinking water out of a bowl. He's afraid she might drip on him.

Scarlett doesn't "swim" per se, but she loves fetching sticks in the water and also chasing dogs. She went in really far this weekend while following two dogs who were playing fetch with their owner, pretty much up to her neck! It was hilarious. Normally, she won't go much further than her elbows.

Both Mona and Simon LOVE the water - we put up a kiddie pool the other day - I have a difficult time keeping them out of it.. They also chase water - coing out of a hose or sprinkler..

If I run a bath for me Mona will always want to join in the fun. Crazy dog!

We rescued Carlie last Sept. 12, and she wanted nothing to do with water then. This spring, I can not water the flowers because she is constantly drinking from the hose, running in it, and splashing with it. She also went all the way into the river this past weekend. She is a water dane.

Mine LOVES water. The first time we took him out in public, he jumped into a duck pond that is not really for swimming! He sometimes goes into my bathroom, gets into the bath tub, and stands there staring at me as if I should bathe him! And when we water the yard, he jumps in front of the house constantly. He has a really good time, but the poor veggies are having a rough year!
