  • 1st day TOTW

Sigh... so due to circumstance with my food delivery, (and curiosity) I had them bring me a bag of TOTW High Prairie ... good grief, you thought i filled her bowl full of treats! She slobbered and ate, and then looked at me like.. wow, are you SURE there's no more? She hasn't eaten kibble that happily in a long time. Da*n, what do they do to it I wonder? i wish Orijen would taste that good to her again Hopefully I can get the regional red and she will like that as much...

thanks for the heads up to all who suggested it... at least its high quality, if not organic free range.

That had me cracking up. I know that look perfectly and my little man is nutso for the High Prairie. I am getting the other samples in a few days but I do not think he will be as crazy for the others. I actually fed him a sardine for the first time today and he took it and dropped it like I gave him a dead hand. He eventually came around to eating it but he really is not a fish lover. Let me know if you get a hold of the Red Regional I still cant get it here but am going to check again this weekend.

As for Regional Red...my local store told me that it was available for order as of 1 June but most stores won't actually be able to stock it until 1 July.

      Counting the days!!!

I know! It's bollocks but hopefully worth waiting for.

Isa...the mental image I got of your girl eating TOTW cracked me up! Scarlett is a freakish dog who loves fish and she gets the same look over the Orijen. She starts dancing around the kitchen and snapping the air with her mouth, then collapses in a pile when I tell her to sit/down. All the while, she is drooling like crazy!

Faust he doesnt like the sardines at all? My dogs LOVE them. So funny. I give them sardines about every other day just a bit in their food. I think when I get the next bag of TOTW, I am going to try the water one.

The only thing I can think of reading you two talking about feeding sardines is, how awful does that make their breath?? *L* Like it's not bad enough??!! Too funny. I would have never thought it. ;-)

I didn't notice a difference in Scarlett's breath when I fed her canned mackerel...I just noticed a difference in her coat!

You are right..it is stinky...but Rosco loves them. When I come home from the store and set the can on the counter, the nose goes right to the can and the tail starts swinging. I've learned to hurry up and put that away. That darn tail hurts. We call it the "Danger Zone"

For a little while it does, my husband cant even pet him for about 30 minutes after he eats. He cant stand fish in any way shape or form.

                    Hmmm, havent tried the Makeral.

I think we'll just stick to the smoked salmon thats already in the food. That smells bad enough. I'm not a big fish eater either.

"Danger Zone" is a perfect name for their tail range. That's too funny. I'll have to tell that one to my hubby. He will totally agree. That poor man gets dropped to his knees on a regular basis thanks to Kelso. *L*

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a question...
If you do this, do you mix it slowly to switch over? Or just do it cold turkey, one food one day, another the next? Is it ok to do a cold turkey if it's the same brand?

From what I gather, you can freely switch them around from bag to bag. I have some of the High Prairie left so they wont actually be cold turkey. I really dont want him to have such a sensitive stomach that he cant have anything different. It would make it difficult if a food ever became impossible to get.

It depends. If the dog is already having soft stools and trouble with the food he is on then it probably would be a good idea to not mix it and get him over to new food right away.

If he is not having any issues with the food he is on, it is always best to gradually increase the new with the old with each feeding over a few days to a week just to be safe. Especially if you are dealing with a dog with a sensitive stomach anyways.

We switched cold turky to TOTW since Lexie was having lots of poo issues anyway. I agree with johnsondanes, if the tummy is ok then switch gradually.
