  • "HARD KEEPER" meaning please

    been reading and noticed alot of the statement "hard keeper" used often, would
    like to know what this actually means please anyone?

    If I had to guess, I would say it means that your dog is hard to feed, meaning everything you give him upsets his stomach or something to that affect.

      Hard keeper = hard to keep weight on

      Sometimes due to disease process
      Sometimes due to the dog's personality
      Sometimes due to sensitive stomach
      Sometimes due to pickiness

          Every time I have heard or used the term "hard keeper" it refers to the dog not wanting to eat. Not that they are diseased or sick just that they are not that interested in food--thus making it hard to keep weight on them and in my case keeping a good show weight. We used to say if the wind blew the wrong way our boy wouldn't eat! LOL He is much better now that he is finished of course :P
