I'm still relatively new to showing but from what I can see she is a very good looking bitch. She's got good bone but still has a very feminine appearance. Really nice head and beatiful neck. Good angles front and back. On a couple of pictures she's a little high on back, but that's probably growth related since she's only 4.5 months and going through the "ganglies." She has a nice deep chest that extends to her elbow (a few puppies I've seen develop this later). She can use a bit more tuck up, but that usually shows better when they're a bit older as well. It looks like she has nice compact feet and she has a really beautiful clean fawn color with a nice mask. IMVHO, she is very beautiful, promising show prospect! Definitely looking forward to more pics of your beautiful girl!Last edited by gmromerosa; 03-30-2010, 07:08 AM.Gary

Positives:
Nice long, slender neck, good topline, good shoulder placement with nice layback, nice rear angulation, tight feet and legs look solid/sound (strong pasterns).
Negatives:
Needs more head (I think her biggest fault), rounded butt with a steep croup(another biggy), size (she looks small to me), and Im wondering if she has enough bone. I also have a 4 1/2 month old brindle girl, so Im comparing your girls size to the one I look at everyday LOL!
Her inherent temperament may also be a concern. How was she raised? Has she been out socializing? If her timid/shy temperament is because of lack of socialization, you can try to draw it out as she is still young, but if her temperament is because thats who she is, its really tough to show a dog with that type of temperament........let alone want to breed it to produce more of the same. I only say this as its quite common to see specific temperaments running in certain lines.
Good luck with her!! I would start doing conformation classes soon!Carolyn

She is a nice bitch, with many strengths. I think you can certainly have a lot of fun with her.
That said, I also agree with Carolyn that I would like to see more head. I had a similar problem with Kava. You can certainly win and have fun, but remember the Dane is a head breed and you will face somewhat of an uphill battle, unless you very carefully select your judges.sigpic

As someone that has a female "show dog" with a small head, I can tell you it is an uphill battle. My Belle, has a beautiful body. We've taken her to a few shows with the breeder there. The breeder kept getting, "what a beautiful bitch, its a shame her head is so small." We've stopped showing her and are hoping her head catches up. She is a now a year, so we we will see.sigpic

Its a very good sign that she has made big improvements as far as her temperament thus far. If it was just a lack of socialization, you can fix that!
As far as your girls head........yes they can definitely develop more head and especially more definition (as I already know my girl will develope more definition as she matures).......and depending on her lines, this may be something that will come along.....her breeder would be better able to answer that question. You will also be able to tell some by looking at her lineage.
<< Do you happen to have photos posted of your brindle girl? I'd love to see her.>>
I just took these pictures yesterday to update her gallery. She is 26 1/2" at the shoulders and weighs 70lbs.

I'm not sure how much it "could" improve, though I noticed it is starting to lengthen, but not sure how much it could change from now until adulthood. Her sire and dam both have EXCELLENT heads, though there are a couple bitches in her pedigree with "not so much" head. I am hoping she will mature more like her sire or dam head-wise. We will see. My last (and first) show prospect, my brindle man has an AMAZING head, he's just not built conformationally very well. I like what I see of this girl body-wise (mostly...except now the croup that carolyn pointed out ) and she has amazing movement already. I hope her head will catch up with the rest of her. Thanks again for the comments!
I wouldn't throw away the baby with the bath water, but I would keep a very open mind about how she progresses. Be honest with yourself and try to avoid becoming kennel blind. Above all, have fun. Good luck!Last edited by lwrees72; 03-30-2010, 11:20 AM.sigpic

No, I dont think she is huge, but she is a good size. I guess its all with what you are used to.
This is Shenzi's mother (picture taken yesterday). She is 34" and 150lbs at 2 1/2yrs old.
I expect when my girls reach their 6 month birthday they are 28 to 29" at the shoulder and between 85 to 90lbs.
Shenzi is right in line with achieving this.......
The boys should be 30 to 31" and between 95 to 105lbs.
If either sex isnt at my expectations by 6 months, I know they will be on the smaller side for my breeding program.
If you purchased your girl from an established breeder, they will be able to tell you all of this for your girl, especially since she is now over 4 months old. Its harder to be that sure when you are looking at an 8 week old pup, but LOTS change even when your talking a few months time!Carolyn

I keep looking at Carolina and thinking how beautiful she is, and while I recognized a few faults at the moment, I still think they aren't that big of a deal *yet* I hope this isn't kennel blindness starting already with her But I definately acknowledge her size and head are issues. Hopefully she will grow into everything, if not, I think when it comes time I'll be able to realize it.
If the dogs behind her have good heads, her's may come in. Meanwhile get her out and about as much as you can, getting her used to people and strange places. Always making it fun, fun, fun.
Good Luck.
