  • Question about coat color history

Does anyone have any resources concerning the evolution of the Dane as a breed?

I'm particularly looking for information about the coat colors, why the acceptable colors we have were chosen as being 'the standard' and why all other colors are considered 'off'.

Wondering because I frequently find myself facing questions about the Dane color standard, why it's so explicit and stringent, why a heavily marked harlequin or a mantle with a broken collar are considered 'sub par' by the standard, etc.

Anyone have any info or know where I can do some reading?

Check with the GDCA... that is you best resource for that type of info.

The Time Traveler by Jill Swedlow might be a good read too.

The Time Traveler is written by Jill Evans, not Jill Swedlow

Well behaved danes are not born. They are “made” by responsible and caring dane owners.
