  • cleaning up slightly dirty front

I have a fawn male that will be a stud eventually. He is from a brindle/fawn breeding and his past seven generations are all fawns and brindles. He has been show evaluated and has a slightly dirty front. Nothing bad but I would like his chest nice and golden like the rest of him. Would the chances of clearing this up become improved if he mates with another fawn? Could the dirty fronts come from the dominant brindle genes?

    I appreciate any advice.

    Dirty fronts

No, it doesn't come from the brindle gene. Some lines just have it. Breed to a fawn with a golden coat color and no dirty front.

How old his he? My breeder kept a girl for breeding and she had a sligtly dirty front too when she was young. But now at just over 1 year, it's almost completely gone. Maybe he will grew out of it when he will shed is puppy coat.

How old is he? Many dogs grow out of the sooty (that's what it is called) coat when they get older.

He is just over a year and he just finished the dreaded "blow out" of his puppy coat, LOL

The "sootiness" is that even a word? haha, is not too bad. Just something I would like to see improved. This is my first fawn and I've always had blacks on the past. Is it normal to be lighter colored inside the legs? I know I sound terribly picky but I just want to be "on the know" so to speak. Thanks for all the response.

My babies were a bit on the sooty side when they were pups. They all grew out of it and are a nice golden fawn now. When it's time to breed him find a female that has a nice fawn coat. Avoid the more heavier sooty girls and your litter should be really nice coated.

In my avatar pic, my pup has a dark forehead. He is all nice and golden now at one yr. old
