  • Breeding blue females and their coat color change?

I wanted to get answers from some other Great Dane owners who breed their blue females. When breeding and after the dog whelps, has anyone noticed any changes in the females coat color? Like changing to a dark color and not that steele blue color. I wonder if it is hormones that can cause this to happen? Any thoughts on this matter??

    Thanks,

    Shanda

I've never heard of that happening from breeding. How old is she?

RE: Breeding blue females and their coat color change?

This question is for a friend of mine that has a blue female she is 4 yrs old (now) and they bred her 2yrs ago, after she had her litter they noticed that her coat color changing!! From the steele blue to more of a dark color. I just wondered if it is something with hormones after whelping?? I have a blue female that I will be breeding this spring, and wondered if this is something comon among blue females. What do you think? Thanks.

I think you need to click on the below link and honestly answer the questions on breeding your bitch. This is one of the simplest but most effective charts that I refer folks to that want to breed their dogs.

That's a great site Brenda, and to the OP I definatly agree that you should look that over seriously before considering breeding.

I love that site tho! It's definatly going on my favorites list to send to any of my friends who think they should put their two intact dogs together because "they'd make great puppies". :f

Perhaps you should ask your vet.

All bitches blow their coat after whelping. Diet and sunlight also have an effect on coat color.
