I saw a picture of a baby fawn, about 1 week old that was listed as a 'dark fawn'. She has very pink toes for just the end segment or so, and then the rest of her is a very dark fawn color, but not chocolate. What is this? Is it normal?

Pink pads are normal for infant puppies; all of mine were pink for a while and then filled in with grey/black. Fawns are born with a lot of sabling (dark overlay), which gradually fades as they grow. It may be that the breeder sees a particularly large amount of the overlay, so knows the puppy will be "sooty," or it could be a novice who thinks that the puppies are going to stay the color they are at one week and so is labeling them as dark.

Fawns are usually dark when they are born. Look at the top of the head to get a better idea of what the color will be when they grow up. Pink pads are normal. They'll change color as they get older. Baby fawns can be likened to "mouse" colored in some cases...Jo
